James Beard Award–Winning Chef Timothy Wastell Joins Old Pal

It is with great pleasure that we walk joyously into a new chapter for Old Pal. We are overwhelmingly happy to announce the arrival of our old pal Timothy Wastell as Chef. Timothy won the 2025 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific and we are humbled to have him lead us into the finest version of this little corner restaurant yet. He’s our favorite cook on the planet and we can’t wait for him to become yours as well. This partnership has been more than a decade and a half in the making and feels every bit of perfect timing. Old Pal is an intimate neighborhood spot located on the corner of SE 34th and Morrison in Portland, Oregon. We are open Thursday through Sunday, 4-9pm with a $2 Oyster Happy Hour from 4-6pm nightly. Rooted in the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, our menu highlights the beauty of seasonal cuisine. We source exceptional seasonal ingredients through long-standing relationships with farmers, ranchers, fishers, and foragers. Our specialty market focuses on upscale pantry favorites as well as items sourced from small, local businesses. In addition, our handsome space is available to rent for intimate gatherings, parties or corporate functions.
